UAE trade name rules you must follow
Most name rejections come from a handful of avoidable mistakes. Your name must comply with the Department of Economy & Tourism (and free-zone) rules below.
- No offensive or blasphemous words — anything against public morals or religion is refused.
- No religious, sectarian or political terms — e.g. names of God, government bodies.
- Match your activity — the name must reflect the licensed business activity.
- No country, government or agency names — Dubai/UAE/emirate names are restricted.
- Full names only for personal names — no initials or abbreviations (e.g. "A.B. Trading").
- No already-registered or similar names — must be unique and not confusingly alike.
- Legal-form suffix — end with the correct form (LLC, FZE, FZ-LLC, etc.).
- No trademarked brands — you can't use names you don't own the rights to.

The UAE register is first-come, first-served. If your first choice is taken or breaks a naming rule, having backups means we can secure an available name without restarting the process.
Can I reserve the name once it’s available?
Yes. Once we confirm a name is free and compliant, we can reserve it in your name and move straight into your trade licence and company setup.
Does the name need to be in Arabic too?
Arabic is optional at this stage. For the final licence an Arabic transliteration is usually required, and we prepare it for you.
